90 Impact 2007 National Seriers TN Finalist
The
90 Impact Nike I
soccer team battled its way to the championship game of the U17 girls'
division at the TSSA State Tournament at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex
in Germantown, Tenn.
In the title game, the Impact was vanquished 3-0 by the
Brentwood Real Madrid, a team ranked 28th in the nation by Soccer In
College.com.
The 90 Impact had lost to Real Madrid 5-0 in the first
preliminary game of the tournament, then defeated the Nashville Metros
2-0 to make the semifinals. A 2-0 semifinal victory over the
Collierville Lobos set up the title-game rematch with Real Madrid.
The 90 Impact Nike I wore black armbands and dedicated their season to the memory of
Palmer Griffin of Signal Mountain and Girls
Preparatory School, a member of the team who was diagnosed with
leukemia a year ago and died in December. A team photo and a silver
finalist medallion were presented to the Griffin family.
The 90 Impact Nike I is made up of 22 girls from high schools all over East Tennessee.
They are

Thanh Lay from Oak Ridge High;
Taylor Buquo from Baylor;
Olivia Clark from West High;
Claire Duncan,
Patience Leonard and
Michelle Meade from Greeneville High;
Morgan Gruenenfelder from Sweetwater High;
Britney Reinhardt from Maryville High;
Sara Rochester and
Chelsea Hunt from Bearden High;
Lindsay Matijevich from Jefferson County High;
Josie Rix from GPS;
Gretchen Sutch and
Rachel Bonfini from Knox Catholic;
Leslie Wilson from Anderson County High; and
Kaila Beasley, Megan Buzzeo, Shannon Schell, Morgan Plum and
Casey Ulrich from Farragut High.
This was the last competitive soccer game for the 90 Impact's
three seniors --Olivia Clark, who is headed to Miami University of
Ohio; Morgan Gruenenfelder, who will play soccer for Carson-Newman College; and Thanh Lay, who will attend the University of Kentucky. |
