| GAMBIER, Ohio -- (October 20, 2007) Sophomore Rachel Williams (Knoxville, TN/West) became the tenth Kenyon College soccer player to record a goal this season after she scored late in Saturday afternoon's contest and lifted the Ladies to a 1-0 triumph over the Case Western Reserve University Spartans. Kenyon's balanced offensive attack has produced 17 goals this season and no player has more than three. The unselfish play has kept opponents guessing and has resulted in three straight wins, four wins in the last five games, and an overall season record of 8-5-2. For Williams, who scored with just over 12 minutes left in the game, the goal was her first of the season and the first of her collegiate career. She corralled a crossing pass from freshman Katie Fee (Pelham, NY/Pelham Memorial) and ripped her shot over the head of Case's goalkeeper Kirstin McClain. |
Despite the youthful reflection from the scoring sheet, Kenyon relied on senior goalkeeper Rosie Davis (Decatur, GA/Decatur) and
a veteran defense to shut down the Spartans. Davis made seven saves and
the Ladies notched their seventh shutout of the season. Additionally,
Davis and the Kenyon defense have not allowed a goal in their last 283
minutes of play. The Ladies must now turn
their attention to a pair of crucial conference games against Allegheny
and Wittenberg next week. In all likelihood, they'll have to win both
of those games to assure themselves a spot in the postseason
tournament. |
